A filling is a very common procedure and most people, at some point in their lives, will have a cavity that requires attention. It might be needed due to decay, damage or wear and tear to the surface of the tooth.
Tooth-coloured composite fillings are now more popular than the amalgam alternative, with many people choosing composite for aesthetic reasons.
A composite filling can transform your smile in a cost effective and pain-free way.
Why choose composite fillings?
- Natural looking and aesthetically pleasing, able to blend seamlessly into the tooth
- Free from mercury and other metals
- Able to be effectively used in both the front and back teeth
- Can be moulded into difficult places and is cemented in to provide additional strength
- Can be easily repaired if becomes damaged
What does the treatment involve?
We will use a local anaesthetic to numb the area being treated, before removing the decayed part of the tooth.
The composite material is moulded into the cavity and sets in a very short amount of time. The filling is smoothed to ensure it is comfortable in your mouth.
Composite fillings are more difficult to place than amalgam and may take a longer appointment time.
Aftercare
Your filling will be set by the time you leave the practice, and once the local anaesthetic wears off you will be able to chew on it. We recommend sticking to soft foods and avoiding hot drinks on the day of your filling.
Composite is regularly used as a bonding material in orthodontic treatments and can also be used to repair chips or gaps in teeth.
